Omega point spacers are 100% recycled PVC clips that snap onto individual reinforcement bars. How to determine the correct spacer size?
The spacer size (from 15 to 50mm) corresponds directly to the required concrete cover for the reinforcement. This cover is specified in the project documentation according to Eurocode 2. Interior dry elements typically require 15-20mm, exterior structures need 25-30mm, and elements in aggressive environments (chlorides, seawater) require 40-50mm.
How many spacers per square meter are needed?
The quantity depends on the spacer type and construction element. For Omega point spacers: 4-6 pieces per square meter for walls and columns, 3-4 pieces for slabs. For linear spacers: they are placed 60-100cm apart, perpendicular to the load-bearing reinforcement. For heavy reinforcement meshes, the spacing is reduced.
What standards apply for concrete cover?
In Europe, Eurocode 2 (EN 1992-1-1) defines minimum concrete cover based on the exposure class of the structural element. For class XC1 (dry interior elements) the minimum is 15mm, for XC3/XC4 (exterior elements) it is 25-30mm, and for XD/XS (chloride or marine environment) it is 40-50mm. The structural engineer determines the exact requirements for each element.
